What is the Japan Training Squadron?

The Japan Training Squadron, composed of JS KASHIMA and JS SHIMAKAZE, is commanded by Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro, and carries approximately 570 people, including about 190 officer trainees who graduated from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Officer Candidate School in Japan. Their visit to Port Victoria is part of the Overseas Training Cruise 2024, which runs from 20th May to 11th November 2024. The cruise aims to provide officer trainees with hands-on training to acquire basic knowledge and skills required for their service, develop their global awareness through the joint exercise and other activities, and promote international goodwill with their visiting countries.
