Preserving Seychelles’ Cultural Memory
The Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts (SNICHA) is taking a major step toward safeguarding our nation’s cultural identity.
Today, Monday 10 November 2025, a consultative meeting was held at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles (ICCS) to discuss the submission of a UNESCO Memory of the World nomination — a global programme dedicated to the protection and preservation of the world’s documentary heritage.
SNICHA’s nomination will feature a collection of over 600 audio cassettes dating back to the early 1980s — a priceless archive capturing Seychelles’ rich oral traditions, folklore, and cultural expressions.
This initiative marks an important moment in ensuring that the voices, stories, and heritage of Seychelles continue to inspire future generations — both locally and globally.
