Ongoing sensitisation campaign on the proposed nomination of the Mission Ruins of Venn’s Town for UNESCO
Dr Odile Decommarmond presented the historical background of the Mission Ruins of Venn’s Town, highlighting its connection to the experiences of liberated African children in Seychelles following the abolition of slavery, as well as its contribution to education and the development of Seychellois Creole society.
Director General Julienne Barra, a member of the National Technical Committee for the nomination, provided an overview of the nomination dossier, the extensive technical work undertaken and the current evaluation process. Other representatives of the National Technical Committee also participated in the session and engaged with the young parliamentarians.
Engaging young people in this process is particularly important. They are the future custodians of our national heritage and can play a vital role in promoting historical awareness, encouraging public participation and advocating for the continued protection of the site.
