Visit to Moscow
The Principal Secretary for Culture, Arts and National Heritage, Ms. Cecille Kalebi, recently led a Seychelles delegation to Moscow from 20–24 March 2026, marking an important step in strengthening cultural cooperation between Seychelles and Russia.
The mission focused on expanding collaboration in arts education, heritage preservation, and cultural exchange, while positioning Seychelles more prominently on international cultural platforms.
A key highlight of the visit was a high-level meeting with Deputy Minister for Culture, Andrey Malyshev, where both sides expressed their intention to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance artistic cooperation and cultural exchange.
Seychelles also made a strong impression at the World Artistic Dance Federation (WADF) Russia Dance Competition, with our talented dancers competing among over 2,500 performers from across the world. Ms. Daniella Rose served as a judge, while Mr. Denis Rose and Mrs. Ruth Barbé secured top honours in the Master Category, showcasing the high standard of Seychellois artistic talent.
A special highlight of the mission was the delegation’s attendance at a performance of Swan Lake at the world-renowned Bolshoi Theatre—an experience organized by the Ministry of Culture, offering exposure to one of the most prestigious institutions in global dance.
The delegation also engaged with key institutions, including the Moscow State Academy of Choreography and the Igor Moiseyev Folk Dance Studio, opening doors for student exchanges, training opportunities, and collaboration in both classical and contemporary dance.
In the area of heritage, discussions with the Russian Academy of Sciences explored support for the Venn’s Town site and other initiatives, including technical expertise and training opportunities linked to UNESCO nomination efforts.
This mission has laid a strong foundation for enhanced international cooperation, opening new pathways for capacity building, technical exchange, and the continued global promotion of Seychelles’ rich cultural heritage.
